From Connection to Momentum

Some conversations spark something … shared energy, aligned goals, a glimpse of what could be possible.

But even the most promising connections can stall—not for lack of intent, but for lack of next steps.

This series’ focus on collaboration has left me reflecting on a pressing challenge:

In a sector full of bold ideas and limited resources, how do we move from connection to momentum—especially when the stakes are high and the margins are shrinking?

A few prompts I return to often:

How might exchanging insights help us navigate a decision or challenge we’re both facing?

— Find immediate relevance and mutual benefit in shared realities.

What’s the shared center of gravity that could anchor this partnership, even if everything else is still in motion?

— Identify the core purpose or guiding principle that holds the work together.

How can we build trust early on to move beyond surface-level alignment?

— Build relational depth and authenticity as a foundation.

Where are the silos that need bridging, and who else should we engage early to build momentum?

— Address structural barriers and expand the coalition.

Is there a low-stakes way to test alignment or put a concrete idea on the table, even if it’s messy or half-formed?

— Experiment practically to test fit and build confidence.

I’ve talked about the benefits of collaborating as early as possible—with clarity about what we’re solving for and humility about who’s already in the space.

But momentum? That often begins with someone willing to go first.
